In very short: Most of us are deficient in the Hormone know as Vitamin D. Most of us are inside all day and when we go outside we slather on sunscreen. This D deficiency has many negative health-related consequences. And studies - many anecdotal - but some empirical as well have shown that supplementing Vitamin D has major health benefits.

Most mammals have some sort of hibernation response to the changing seasons. Not all sleep for months like bears but virtually all have a response of fat storage and slower metabolism. Humans , he says (and I would agree) also have a hibernation response - although not as pronounced as some other mammals - we still slow our metabolism down and try and store fat for the harsh season ahead. Vitamin D is the signal to the changing seasons. When we have a lot of vitamin D (way back when we were outside for most of the day and getting it from the sun) our metabolism speeds up and doesn't store as much fat due to the abundance of the season. Conversely, when Vitamin D is low its a signal to our bodies that food is going to be scarce and we need to slow down and store fat.

Unfortunately, most of us lack enough Vitamin D so our bodies are in constant hibernation mode (storing fat and slowing metabolism).

Mainly, due to this book (and some other supporting literature I have read) I currently supplement vitamin D.

I love this book, I love books that makes you aware of a secret that was hidden from you. This book is a must have if you are looking to know all that is about Vitamin D.

I still have some criticism about the the way this book was written though, the structure is more like a journal, sometimes too much repetitions or a bit conflicting results.

Nevertheless, it is a great book.

I will try the high doses on myself and see how applicable are the information for me, then I will keep you updated.

Yes, yet another book about D3. With my fibromyalgia and diabetes type II, I have found myself sick of meds that not only don't work but are dangerous in themselves. So I am researching to take control of my own health.

Mr. Bowles puts his personal story to the forefront. I like that. I hate reading just facts and figures and trying to make sense of the sciences involved. Bowles makes it clearer than others I had found. There are a lot of URLs to click that drive you to sites of clinical trials and results. That is great. That means if I want to hand it to my doctor I can and feel halfway intelligent in the process.

But the book is never finished. In a lot of areas, the author leaves old information and just throws in a parenthetical update. Many authors go back and update their books. Kindle will send you notice or you can go into 'Manage My Kindle' to pick them up. But it is confusing all the (...) and (...). I think the old version should be given, i.e. 'In 1987 I weighed this amount or we believed this...' then follow it with, 'Now I weigh, or now studies show...' And it would flow much easier.

Bowles puts a lot of emails from people that have tried his method and failed or succeeded and adds his reasoning as to what happened in actuality. I liked that. It kept it personal.

I think what I like about the book, I dislike equally. (Hence the 3 stars). The book seems quite long, but it is mostly the studies that are spelled out or referenced in the end of the book (starting at about 50%).

I did appreciate his hard work and sharing it will all of us. I learned a lot and know I can go back for my own references. I think everyone should read this. You don't have to agree, just know it is there. I think going a more natural way is better than all the side-effects of medicines that are prescribed.

Life-changing information; poor structure and writing style
The information about vitamin D presented in this book has made me appreciate the fundamental importance of the sunshine hormone on all animal life. For this, I am very grateful, and would give the book 5 out of 5 stars. However, the lack of organisation and structure, the repetitiveness of the contents, and the generally scattered nature of the writing style together with an overdone informality would make me give it a 1 out of 5 stars.

However, the lack of organisation and structure, the repetitiveness of the contents, and the generally scattered nature of the writing style together with an overdone informality would make me give it a 1 out of 5 stars. Hence, the 3/5 stars is an average. Nonetheless, I think the contents and the convincing nature of the arguments put forward have the potential to help a lot of suffering people, and in fact, maybe practically everyone in the developed world, where we live indoors for most of our lives from birth to death. Therefore, I think everyone can benefit from reading it, or, alternatively, just starting to supplement with large doses of D3 and K2 to benefit from the "miraculous results" this can bring about.

That would buy this book some more credibility and at least one more star in this review.

The key term that defines the book is human hibernation syndrome means when there is not enough D3 the human body starts preparing for hibernation and creates obesity, high BP, diabetes, and (this I combine 2 of his write ups into one to send his message) slows down autophagy resulting in less scavenging of dead cells and thereby causing even cancer.

So have loads of D3 and compliment it with K2 and then everything that you can think of as diseases will just vanish.
Maybe there is valid point that getting enough of D3 is useful to remain healthy and I take home this message and I request all to take the message but this book is not based on any clinical trials or samples: I even doubt if the author is a doctor after reading this !

Last word. Do try to ensure vitamin D3 gets a top priority in your health checks and make sure you take supplements enough quantity.

So, to conclude, I recommend this book to get a different interesting perspective, but don't expect to much on the quality of the writing. It's more like having a long chat at the bar over beers with a knowledgeable Vitamin D fan where you can ignore half the things he's saying that with a book author or a professional on the subject.

I don't think I really learned anything new from reading his rambling on, except maybe that higher doses may help with healing. Sad, because I was hoping to be informed and educated. Glad I have Kindle Unlimited and didn't actually have to pay for reading this as I read a lot and my Kindle Unlimited subscription more than pays for itself. If Jeff wants to be taken seriously he would use more structure and convention that just rambling on. Even his updating is just inserted in parentheses, in many places, in the original text. This is not formal editing.

Truly life changing stuff here. The cure for all diseases (including auto immune) is optimal doses of Vitamin D3 along with Vitamin K2.

99% of the world's population is deficient in Vitamin D3.

Fuck the pharma mafia industry. Fuck the govt who are in nexus with them. Why do I say this? Because Vitamin D3 is not a fucking vitamin. It is a vital, miraculous hormone made by the human body when sunlight hits the skin.

They have been lying to us for decades.

The lies get psychopathic when they tell you that the sun is not good for you. If sun is not good for humans...my God! If someone believes this non-sense, they're idiots. Since the 1980s, when this propaganda of sunscreen began, diseases have skyrocketed all across the world...

Optimal dose: Initially take 50,000 IU D3 a day along with 100 mcg of K2. Then after 10 days, start taking 25,000 D3 everyday with 100 mcg of K2. (K2 should be of MK7 type)

Just read it.

Take the D. You look pale and moody. Frickin' take the D.

For me at least, D3 is pretty critical for a positive mood and energy levels. The theory that low energy and negative mood (i.e. depression) evolved as a response to periods of low sunlight during winter and in order to conserve energy (a sort of mini-hibernation in humans) is pretty solid. The idea this might extend to delaying or not healing wounds makes sense, but personally I don't have much experience in that area.

First I will commend the author for his courage, for trying something different. What attracted me to his premise was the idea of avoiding sickness by getting enough vitamin d. Amazing information on curing diseases with D3

I had heard of taking d3 before in 5000 Iu doses from the grain brain book. But now I know while breastfeeding I should be taking a lot more. I wish my dr would of told me to take these high doses while pregnant with twins. I feel my post partem pre eclampsia and GD, and HBP could of been prevented by taking high doses of D3.

I wanted to read this after reading The Perfect Dose. While the information is good, the writing is so bad that it's hard to get through it. A good editor might be able to take it to the next level. It just sort of rambles on and on, and jumps from one thing to the next and then back again. There are better resources out there regarding high dose vitamin D therapy.
